Southern Ohio Medical Center was recently awarded re-accreditation from the Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accreditation is a voluntary program that recognizes that a sleep testing facility meets the AASM’s rigorous standards.
SOMC has been reaccredited as a sleep facility. Our facility here at SOMC is comprised of a clinic, where patient evaluation and management occur, and a laboratory, where diagnostic testing is administered through in-center sleep studies and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT). Here at SOMC, we can manage patients with all sleep disorders.
Accreditation through the AASM remains the gold standard for evaluating sleep medicine facilities. AASM accreditation demonstrates a facility’s commitment to high-quality patient-centered care.
The process to obtain and maintain accreditation requires a team effort involving all sleep center members. Adherence to AASM established criteria requires a QA program establishing process and outcome measures for sleep-related disorders, comprehensive policies and procedures that address quality of testing, the performance of testing, and patient safety along with documentation of sleep medicine-specific continuing education for all clinical staff members and providers.
“This accomplishment is something that our team has worked very hard on and should be incredibly proud of,” said Yetta Bauer, SOMC Manager of Sleep Medicine and Sleep Diagnostics Center. “The ability to obtain and maintain accreditation requires dedication to the field of sleep disorders and a desire to provide patient care at an elevated level.”
The SOMC Sleep Medicine staff is comprised of registered respiratory therapists, who are dual credentialed in sleep medicine and clinical sleep health education.
Congratulations to the team on an outstanding job!
