Hearing is one of our most vital senses. Audiology is the branch of science that studies hearing, balance, and related disorders. An audiologist is a health-care professional specializing in identifying, diagnosing, treating and monitoring disorders of the auditory and vestibular system in pediatric and adult populations.

SOMC offers a full battery of audiological tests performed by a licensed audiologist. These tests are specific to the needs of the client. Our audiologist can evaluate hearing to diagnose the type and severity of hearing loss and determine appropriate follow up treatment. Some of these special tests include conventional hearing evaluations, video electronystagmography evaluations, tympanometry, and Auditory Evoked Potential tests, including Auditory Brainstem Response and Auditory Steady State Response tests.

SOMC hearing services assist in the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program that provides screening and diagnostic testing necessary to identify hearing loss at birth. The audiologist will counsel families throughout the new diagnosis of hearing loss and provide the follow-up diagnostic and rehabilitation services required for the pediatric population.

SOMC also offers the latest in hearing aid technology including advanced digital hearing aids and assistive devices. We work with several hearing aid companies so we can provide our patients with a variety of options at the best cost. Our audiologist completes all testing and fitting to assure the appropriate hearing aid for the client’s type and severity of hearing loss. All hearing aids come with a 30-day trial period. We also provide follow-up services, including minor and major repairs on many brands of hearing aids.
