Radiation Therapy
The American College of Radiology accredits SOMC’s program, which means you can trust us to have the staff, technology and processes to ensure safe, effective treatment. Services include:
- External beam – The most common type of radiation therapy
- Radioisotope therapy – Infusion treatment that delivers a radioactive liquid through a vein
We’ll protect healthy tissue near your tumor from radiation by using technology such as:
- Versa HD linear accelerator with imaging guidance
- 4D Computed Tomography Simulation
- 3D conformal therapy
- Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT)
- Stereotactic ablative radiation therapy (SABR)
Radiation Treatment Simulation
To plan your external beam radiation sessions, you’ll take part in a treatment simulation using detailed, 4D computed tomography (CT) images. The simulation helps your care team determine where to focus the radiation and how to position you beneath the beam.
