Lung Cancer Screenings

To learn if a lung cancer screening is right for you, call 740-356-LUNG (5864).

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in our community and in the United States—but early detection is key to helping patients live longer, healthier lives. In fact, CT screenings have proven to reduce lung cancer deaths by up to 20 percent for qualifying high-risk lung patients.

Southern Ohio Medical Center has developed a lung cancer screening program to meet the needs of this high-risk lung-patient population. Learn more about lung cancer screenings from Dr. Jeremiah Martin, SOMC Cardiothoracic surgeon in the video below:

Screenings are available to patients who meet the following criteria:

  • Age 50 – 77
  • Tobacco smoking history of at least 20 packs per year
  • Current smoker or one who has quit smoking within the last 15 years
  • No history of lung cancer
  • No signs or symptoms of lung cancer (unexplained weight loss, coughing up blood)

Interested participants can be referred by a provider or via self-referral. Once it is determined that an individual meets the specific criteria, a lung screening CT scan will be ordered and covered by insurance.
