Obstetricians & Midwives
Choose a prenatal care provider as soon as you learn you’re pregnant.
SOMC OB/GYN Associates has:
- Obstetricians – Doctors who specialize in maternity services, attend vaginal deliveries and perform Cesarean sections
- Certified nurse midwives – Providers who care for women’s reproductive health and attend vaginal deliveries
- Certified nurse practitioner – Midlevel provider who specializes in women’s health
You’ll see the same compassionate provider throughout your pregnancy. When it’s time to give birth, you’ll receive care from the doctor or midwife who’s on call at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
High-Risk Pregnancy Care
In some cases, your SOMC provider may recommend you also see a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist.
MFM doctors offer expert care for women who:
- Are pregnant with twins or triplets
- Have a chronic health condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure
- Have delivered a premature baby
- Will be 35 or older on their due date
Health Services for Pregnant Women
At Southern Ohio Medical Center, you have access to:
- Fetal ultrasound, usually in the second trimester, to check your baby’s health and development
- Pregnancy rehabilitation to relieve and prevent back pain, sciatica and other symptoms
- Prenatal breastfeeding education from international board-certified lactation consultants
- Education on managing gestational diabetes, or high blood sugar during pregnancy
Choose a Doctor for Your Baby
Before you give birth, select a provider to care for your newborn. If you already have a family doctor, this professional may be your best choice. If you don’t, browse our provider directory or ask your prenatal caregiver to recommend a pediatrician or family medicine specialist.
