SOMC offers retail pharmacy services at four convenient locations: on SOMC’s Main Campus, in the Portsmouth Family Health Center (South Campus), in the Wheelersburg Family Health Center, in the West Union Family Health Center, and in the Vanceburg Family Health Center. Each of these pharmacies are open to patients, staff, and public and are eager to service your pharmacy needs.
SOMC also offers a Discharge pharmacy, in close proximity to the SOMC Emergency Room. When patients are discharged from the ER or from being an inpatient, it is quick and simple to get prescriptions filled before going home.

Convenience
We offer free medication packaging to help patients with chronic conditions to better manage their medications as well as over-the-counter items such as cough/cold and allergy relief, smoking cessation products, and pain relief medications.
The SOMC pharmacies in Portsmouth, Wheelersburg, and Vanceburg each have a drive-through windows for patient convenience.

MedPaks
SOMC Pharmacies offer a customized medication packaging solution, called SOMC Med PAK, to help customers take the right medications, at the right time, every time. The system offers increased confidence, convenience and safety by pre-sorting multiple prescriptions into a single package for the specified time of day.
It’s easier for caregivers to administer, and easier for seniors to adhere to complex medication regimens, both of which are essential to extending independence and health.
SOMC Pharmacies prepare each customer’s medications in a sealed, clear, plastic packet which is arthritic-approved for easy opening. Each pack is custom-printed with the customer’s name; day and time of dose; medication names, strengths and descriptions; and other details. SOMC Pharmacies supply a monthly strip of packs, which are rolled into a dispensing box, providing a quick and easy way for caregivers to verify that the last dose was taken, minimizing potential errors.
To offer the customized packs, SOMC invested in a Parata ATP 2 packaging system, which automates preparation at the pharmacy, to ensure the highest levels of safety and accuracy.
Meds to Beds
SOMC patients also benefit from our “Meds to Beds” program that is offered throughout the hospital through our SOMC Pharmacy Main Campus location. Through this program, patients are able to receive their medications at their bedside, as opposed to receiving a prescription they must take to a pharmacy.
