Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure, but the patient will not be able to drive home on their own. It is advisable to arrange another person to drive home after the blepharoplasty surgery. It also may be a responsible and judicious idea to have someone stay with the patient during the night after the surgery.
What to expect during eyelid surgery

Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Most patients recover very quickly from an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty surgery. The surgery itself is performed in an outpatient surgical facility with the patient going home the same day. Depending on the complexity of the operation, and whether an upper eyelid lift, lower eye lid lift, or both surgeries are performed, the operation can be performed under local anesthesia, conscious sedation, or general anesthesia and takes one to three hours to complete.
The recovery following eyelid lift or blepharoplasty surgery is generally uneventful. Patients are given oral pain medications and may be given antibiotic and anti-nausea medications as well. Most patients experience a few days of bruising and the swelling decreases rapidly over a period of days to weeks. Some patients may complain of dry eyes, but this condition will usually go away on its own within two weeks in most cases. Those undergoing an eyelid lift surgery are generally able to drive and return to work within a few days to a week, and any residual bruising can be covered with makeup.
Eyelid Surgery Results
The results of lower eyelid surgery are nearly permanent, and a repeat surgery may not be necessary in the future. However, the eyes will still continue to age as usual. Results with upper eyelid surgery can usually last for about five to seven years. In case the eyelids sag again in the future, a forehead lift may be performed rather than a repeat eye lift.
The eyes are the first things we notice when meeting someone new. The eyes can tell many things about a person- mood, temperament, sex, and age, for starters. With that said, the eyes, eyelids, and the periocular region in general are the first areas of the face to show signs of aging. It is no surprise then that eyelid lift surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed in the United States. The demographic of patients seeking eyelid lift surgery has changed as well; many more male patients are seeking eyelid lift and upper facial rejuvenation, with patients, male and female, seeking treatment at a younger and younger age.
