Foot & Ankle Surgery

Foot and ankle surgery may be used to address a variety of foot and ankle conditions from bunions to tendon tears and severe arthritis. Surgery is generally only considered after nonsurgical treatments have been attempted without success.

Bunion Surgery

A common misconception is that a bunion is simply a “bump” that can be “shaved off.” Bunions are more than a bump – they are complex 3D problems caused by an unstable joint in the middle of the foot. While the majority of bunion surgery is only 2D and fails to address the root cause, Lapiplasty® provides a 3D correction and secures the unstable joint. Lapiplasty is now offered at Southern Ohio Medical Center.

A bunion (hallux valgus) is a deformity of the bone or tissue around the joint at the base of the big toe or at the base of the little toe. Bunions often form when the joint is stressed for a long time. Bunions may be inherited as a family trait and may also result from arthritis.

If non-surgical treatments do not help, your healthcare provider may advise surgery. The goal of surgery is to relieve pain and correct as much deformity as possible. View the videos below to learn how Lapiplasty(R) has helped others with relief from bunions.
